Doug Farquhar
A pretty average guy who has been blessed in many ways.
I think we live in a world filled with both wonder and really difficult issues. And both are very interesting to me. I really enjoy reading and listening to people who are smarter than I am, of which there are many. Contemplating their thinking and perspective against my own set of values is both interesting and a personal effort to be a better person. This site allows me to spew my thinking and folly. If anyone has interest in these efforts, great! If not, that is fine as well because I am doing it primarily for my own journey.

I am Doug Farquhar and believe I am your average father, husband and concerned citizen living in Orange County, CA. Life has it challenges of course, but in the grand scheme of things, I am quite lucky. The pictures above reflect the most important part of my life, although there are certainly times in my life where I have drifted from that perspective.
I grew up in Connecticut to good parents and enjoyed a very above average childhood. I was not a particularly great student, despite the hopes of my mother who was a teacher and my father and grandfather who were very accomplished academics.
In my early twenties, I decided to move to San Francisco on somewhat of a whim to see what California was all about. I have lived in the Golden State ever since. Currently I am living in Southern California which is very nice, but not a place I love. Much to my surprise, my youngest kids effectively only know Southern California and we will likely be here until they go to college.
Ideally I would come into large sums of money and be able to 'retire' to a city experience like Boston, San Francisco or New York City (in that order of interest) and summer in my favorite place, Maine. Much work to do, but at least I am 'starting with the end in mind'.
